July...my favorite month of the year.

This has got to be the coolest July ever and I kind of like it. I turned 36 last Saturday and I have to say, I am really enjoying and appreciating all the small things in life. Nothing elaborate or grant, just small everyday goodness.

Dreamy Beets!

My girlfriend Ina gave me these lovely beets. I was introduced to beets by Ina about 3 years ago and of course I am hooked on beets. No one else would eat it in my family. If I had more sunshine in my garden, beets is what I would be growing.

Hubby and I had a talk last night. He thinks I should stop obsessing over the shady yard and stop dreaming about chopping the limbs off our giant oak tree in order for us to get more sunshine. So I decided to stop obsessing. I'm just going to eat off Ina's garden whenever I get a chance =) and concentrate other stuff like knitting (which I haven't done in weeks).

Hubby did offer to get my a plant light and still growing plants in the attic, like big juicy tomatoes and plumeria. I might take up his offer.

Happy Father's Day

The rain held out till about 8p.m. We had a mellow good old time yesterday. Tai dressed up for the occasion and rocked that suit all day, from morning until bedtime. I think the daddy had a good time too.

My beautiful Seedlings

My friend Vikki's mom wrote me today in regards to the mix green salad, arugula and beet seedlings that she saw on my blog. I've been holding on to those precious in small pots because I just don't have a place to put them in my very very shaded yard. She thought I should make a salad out of some of those babies and let a few of them grow. So after the hubby came home tonight to take over the sick kid duties (stayed home with sick little boy again). I took about 30minutes and pull all those babies out and re-potted them a few strong ones into long pots that my grandmother brought over a couple weeks ago. I then made myself a salad, a very small one bite salad and said good-bye to my precious seedlings.

It's a miracle 1 tomato out in my very shaded yard.

1 dirty baby. Just want to eat him up too.

Garden

So here I am trying to flex my green thumb for the first time. I came to realize very quickly that I am working against a very shaded yard. I have a large oak tree in my backyard, one in the front and a few others on the side. But I am still giving it a try on growing things that I know need a full sunlight. In my garden, lettuce, tomato, basil, cilantro, parsley, dill, thyme, rosemary, arugula, carrots, beans, mint, Japanese red maple and 1 sunflower. Most of these guys are still seedlings, such as the beets and the carrots. They are all in pots right now and I'm kind of trying to make it work. I know the carrots and the beets are kind of wishful thinking but a girl can at least try. I am still trying to figure out where to put the Japanese Maple seedlings that my friend Ina gave me. And I discovered yesterday after walking the dog that there is a Mulberry tree right next to my fence. I feel like just a lucky girl! I always wanted a Mulberry tree as a little girl just like Tai always wanted his own acorn tree. And how wonderful is that we both have our childhood dreams come true!

At home

We've been so busy with home and kids. I haven't blog for almost a month. Not that I have a ton of readers waiting for my updates.

Let me start by telling you what I love at this very moment. I love Maplewood, New Jersey. I love my son's school and him loving school. I love playing with soil and dirt. I love watching things grow and learning how to make them grow better but there is so much to learn!!! I love that my family is happy and I love that I am happy.

We've been spending a lot of time together and playing in the backyard. If it's warm and sunny, and at home, we are outside.

I know it's been three months but I still pinch myself sometimes to believe that this is real. We moved out of our tiny Queens 1 bedroom apartment and into this lovely little house. I'm so grateful for our blessings.

Part Rainy Weekend with blocks

We spent part of our rainy weekend with blocks. I love that both of my boys are playing on the floor separately with blocks. Miles just discovered them very recently and my Tai Tai would still spend hours staking those wooden things all different ways. And I just love watching them. Some days, I'm still in disbelieve how lucky I am to have these two beautiful little people in my life and what a privilege to be their mom.

Seven Months

Our little pumpkin Miles turned 7 months yesterday and he slept through the night for the first time ever!

Some how I kept waking up to see if he's all right. Habit! Habit!
